Andres Iniesta sees ‘a lot of quality in both teams, so mentality will be fundamental in the decisive moments’ of the Champions League Final between Inter and Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Barcelona and Spain midfielder cast his eye over the upcoming clash, which will be hosted at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday May 31 at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT, 21,00 CET).
Naturally, he was watching the semi-final when Inter drew 3-3 with Barcelona both home and away, before winning in extra time at San Siro.
“It was just incredible and on Saturday it will be an interesting challenge,” Iniesta told Sky Sport Italia.
“Both Simone Inzaghi and Luis Enrique are credible in the eyes of their players, they are doing a special job at their clubs. I am happy for Luis Enrique, because I loved him as a player first and then as a coach. He is such a hard worker, who really focuses on the details.”
It is the second Champions League Final in three years for Inzaghi’s Inter, whereas there are few players remaining from the last time Paris Saint-Germain made it this far.
Iniesta has won the trophy four times with Barcelona in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015, so what advice can he give to the players?
“It is a magical moment, the final step in a long journey, so you must experience it as a dream, with joy. It is a great opportunity, but at the same time a great responsibility. It is unique to participate in matches like this.”
The Spaniard was one of the sport’s greatest midfielders, so he sees this area as the key for both Inter and Paris Saint-Germain.
“There is a lot of quality on both teams, midfielders who know how to control the tempo. Mentality will be fundamental in the decisive moments. I think it will be a wonderful Champions League Final,” concluded Iniesta.
