Injured Tottenham star offers insight on his potential return to action

We know for a fact that the North Londoners have been looking a bit short owing to a few injuries of late. But Thomas Frank finally has some good news as Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski gives an update about his recovery during the ongoing international break.

Kulusevski speaks out on his injury

Kulusevski has been speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, where the silky winger admits that he would possibly be missing out on playing in the World Cup qualifiers and the Champions League group stage. But then he went on to speak about his confidence that he will be returning before the end of 2025.

He also went on to admit how the past few months have proven to be difficult for him, but he insists that this has helped his hunger grow stronger.

He said:

“The status is good. The rehab is going well. Every day I wake up with the same hunger and even more hunger with each passing day.

The status is very good, and I will be on a football field in the very, very near future, he tells Viaplay.

If everything goes as it should, as it has so far, I am very confident that I will be on the field in two to three months.”

If we consider this timeline, while he would not be playing in the early stages of the Champions League campaign, the thing is, he would be back when things get serious later in the tournament (should Spurs progress).

There have been a few injury problems at Tottenham beyond Kulusevski

The Swede would be one of the six players who are currently serving the treatment table at Hotspur Way. If we are speaking names, James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, Dominic Solanke and Kota Takai have been accompanying him.

Of the aforementioned others, Maddison’s situation is the most severe. The England international has ruptured the ACL in his right knee in the pre-season friendly against Newcastle on 3 August in Seoul. And this is the same knee that he was nursing just three months before, which ended up ruling him out of the Lilywhites’ Europa League final triumph over Manchester United. Maddison will be expected to miss the majority of the ongoing 2025/26 campaign.

And if we now get into this Kulusevski injury, it started with ankle problems which were initially downplayed by then Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou. The former boss said it was “a minor issue” that would clear up after the international break. Instead, the Swede has been serving the sidelines for a lengthy period, which has added to frustration among the supporters.

Frank has inherited a squad in transition, but he has been dealing with fitness problems. Kulusevski, when he returns, will be a big plus, particularly given his creative abilities and direct running capacity, which Tottenham sorely missed in the loss to Bournemouth.
