Any injury ahead of the 2026 World Cup is concerning for many national team fans, including the USMNT. Despite the World Cup being more than ten months away, concerns regarding Sergino Dest's recent injury increased.

Dest is seen as a fundamental player for the USMNT but did not feature in the Gold Cup this summer. He recovered from an ACL injury and focused on full recovery instead of participating in the Gold Cup with the USMNT under Mauricio Pochettino this summer.

There was concern when it was confirmed that Dest suffered an injury during a friendly match for PSV just 20 minutes into the game. PSV are currently on preseason, but as the player went down and was subbed off, many believed it would be a huge setback.

PSV manager Peter Bosz confirmed the injury was minor but now there are new positives ahead of the new season for PSV and the USMNT.

Update on Sergino Dest's Injury

After being subbed off early in a PSV friendly match this past weekend, Dest has been seen traveling with the rest of the team for a training session. Despite the injury, Dest may soon be fully cleared to train and play again.

PSV will be traveling to Germany for a training camp. Their pre-season continues as they are set to play Athletic Bilbao in a friendly match on July 26. The Dutch champions will also take on FC Eindhoven on July 30.

PSV's first competitive match of the 2025-26 season starts on August 3 against Go Ahead Eagles in the Johan Cruyff Shield. USMNT fans hope Dest is fully ready for the new season at PSV and hope the right-back begins to get minutes so he earns a call-up for the national team again.

USMNT Announces New Friendlies

The USMNT under Pochettino will prepare for the World Cup through competitive friendly matches against top national teams from around the world. In September, Team USA will take on two of the strongest Asian national teams.

Team USA will be playing four national teams that have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup. On September 6, the USMNT will play against South Korea, and on September 9, they will take on Japan.

The USMNT announced two friendlies in October against Ecuador and Australia. On October 10, the USMNT will take on Ecuador at the Q2 Stadium. On October 14, they will take on Australia at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The upcoming two international breaks will be crucial for Pochettino to start deciding which players he can count on for the World Cup next summer. It is a great opportunity for players like Dest who have not featured on the national team in a while.
