The Inter Miami team trained today at the club's facilities in preparation for the friendly match, and reporters like Jorge Armando of Deporte Total USA noticed that Lionel Messi did not participate in the team training.
The Argentine star missed the start of the training session, and it has been revealed that the player did not participate in the session at all by the club.
Rumors sparked that an injury was the cause of Messi's absence in the training session after the Argentine star only played 58 minutes in the previous friendly match against Barcelona SC over the weekend.
Inter Miami has confirmed that Messi suffered an injury during the match against Barcelona SC in Ecuador.
Inter Miami released an official statement confirming that Lionel Messi is injured and that the Argentine star missed the whole training session today.
The club provided an injury update on Lionel Messi that stated that the player suffered a muscle strain in his left hamstring.
Inter Miami: "Messi did not participate in training this Wednesday, February 11, due to a muscle strain in his left hamstring sustained during the match against Barcelona SC in Ecuador, which has persisted since then. The player underwent additional medical tests that confirmed the diagnosis. His gradual return to training will depend on his clinical and functional progress in the coming days."
With Inter Miami no longer playing this Friday against Independiente del Valle in Puerto Rico, the team will fully focus on preparing for the first MLS match of the season against LAFC on February 21, 2026.
It is unclear whether Messi is expected to be fully fit in time for the match against LAFC.
Lionel Messi spoke to the fans in Puerto Rico via Instagram to reveal that he is injured and that the club decided to reschedule the match for another date.
In the video on his Instagram story, Messi said, "Hello everyone, I’d like to send my greetings to the people of Puerto Rico, both those who were going to attend the training session and the match. The truth is that in the last match in Ecuador, I ended up with discomfort, which is why I came off before the end. Because of that, together with the organizers and the club, it was decided to suspend this match. I hope it can be rescheduled, that we can see each other, and that we can visit you soon. I’m sending you all a very big thank you for your support and affection. I know tickets had already been sold and everything was set in motion, so hopefully we can make it happen later. A big hug to everyone, and all the best."
