Inter Miami CF parted ways with beloved attacker Robert Taylor on Wednesday, but the Herons could not let the club legend go without sending him one last parting message.
The 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield winners were tipped to make big moves before the MLS primary transfer window closed on Wednesday, but trading Taylor to Austin FC was not one of them — especially without bringing a player back in the other direction. Inter Miami received up to $750,000 in general allocation money in the deal.
The unexpected move left deadly, but aging, striker duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez with one less reliable attacker to support their trophy-winning aspirations this season.
"Thank you, Robi," Inter Miami wrote in an Instagram post.
The slideshow of photos showed Taylor winning the Supporters Shield and the 2023 Leagues Cup in pink and black. He leaves as the field player with the most appearances across all competitions in Inter Miami history. He recorded 18 goals and 18 assists in those 116 appearances.
"Inter Miami would like to thank Taylor for his contributions, and wishes him well in his future," the club added in a statement.
Though the 30-year-old Finland native was a key part of Inter Miami's pre-Messi history, his departure followed a pattern of calculated moves to surround Messi, Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets with younger, cheaper and more dynamic players.

— Franco Panizo (@FrancoPanizo) April 24, 2025
"It was a decision from the organization, which felt it was good business.
"...I talked to him a few minutes ago and said, 'Thank you very much for these 4 months.' He was very, very professional."#InterMiamiCF #Messi
Inter Miami has an undefeated record (five wins, three draws) though the first eight games of MLS play this season. It is also competing in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Leagues Cup this season, meaning there will be plenty of minutes available that Taylor could have filled.
If Inter Miami do not bring in another player by the end of Wednesday when the primary transfer window closes, any pursuit of a player from outside the league like Kevin De Bruyne would have to wait until the secondary transfer window opens July 24.
