Inter Milan center-back Francesco Acerbi reaffirmed his defensive credentials in last night’s Derby della Madonnina.
According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the 37-year-old was impeccable in Inter’s narrow 1-0 defeat to AC Milan.
Despite being in the autumn of his career, Francesco Acerbi continues to be the cornerstone of Inter’s backline.
Indeed, Cristian Chivu decided to give the Italian veteran the nod ahead of Yann Bisseck last night.
And he was right to do so, as the former Lazio star fared outstandingly against Rafael Leao.
Acerbi rolled back the years to help Inter keep Milan quiet for most of the game.
However, one lapse in concentration from Yann Sommer and Manuel Akanji saw the Rossoneri waltz away with a slender win.
Meanwhile, Acerbi held up his end of the bargain, making light work of Leao.
Therefore, Tuttosport suggests that Gennaro Gattuso would do well to recall the seasoned defender to the national team.
Italy prepare to face Northern Ireland in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs this March, and Acerbi’s return could serve them well.
