Inter Milan slumped to a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Liverpool in last night’s heavyweight Champions League showdown at San Siro.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, Inter’s struggles against elite teams came to the fore once again.

Despite winning three games in a row ahead of the kick-off, Inter looked up the creek without a paddle from the get-go.

Though the Nerazzurri showed signs of improvement after Ibrahima Konate’s disallowed goal, they performed well below their high standards

Inter may have not deserved to lose, but Felix Zwayer’s decision to award a phantom penalty to Liverpool condemned them to another defeat.

As a result, Cristian Chivu lost another high-profile fixture after being beaten by AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Napoli.

Indeed, this ominous trend raises questions about Inter’s capacity to perform on the biggest stage.

Furthermore, Inter’s hopes of securing automatic last-16 qualification are now in doubt.

Chivu’s men will likely have to take at least four points against Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the next two games to lock down a top-eight finish.
