Ruben Amorim and Manchester United could face increased competition for a midfielder already on the radar of Juventus and Inter Milan, according to reports from Italy.
The Portuguese manager has started the process of reshaping the first-team squad inherited from Erik ten Hag, taking his first steps towards building a side that fits his vision. One of his main goals is to add new midfielders to the squad.
Christian Eriksen’s departure – following the expiration of his contract – has reduced the depth in that area and raised short-term concerns, as Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer both had injury issues last season, while Casemiro’s deal with United is set to expire next summer.
Therefore, the club is expected to target midfield reinforcements, with names such as Ardon Jashari and Frank Onyeka already being linked.
Previously linked with Man United, Ederson has reportedly emerged as a target for two Italian giants: Juventus and Inter Milan.
The 26-year-old Brazilian international has been one of Atalanta’s standout performers since 2022, when he arrived in Bergamo from Salernitana.
Ruben Amorim’s system at Old Trafford requires a defensive-minded midfielder, and Ederson is seen as a good fit for that role.
The Brazilian is under contract with Atalanta until 2027, which means any potential move could come with a high asking price.
Tutto Juve claims that while both Italian clubs are interested in Ederson, neither have made a formal offer yet.
Atalanta are expected to demand a significant transfer fee, around £51.7m (€60m), before considering any move for Ederson, who has also drawn interest from Juventus and Inter Milan.
Tutto Juve reports that United have ‘already initiated contact’ with Ederson’s representatives to ‘assess the terms of a transfer.’
The outlet added that Atalanta’s £51.7m valuation is seen as a ‘starting point’ for discussions, and the Serie A club could push for an even higher fee.
It has been suggested that Ederson is viewed as the right profile to be the ‘ideal partner’ alongside Bruno Fernandes in United’s midfield setup.
