Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is set to start next weekend’s Serie A match against Roma despite his late return from the international break.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
At the moment, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez is on international duty with Argentina.
The 28-year-old is a key player for both club and country.
And as has been a theme in recent years, Martnez’s international break is not easy to schedule around his work at Inter.
Argentina’s last match of this break is a friendly against Puerto Rico. That match will take place early on Wednesday morning in Central European Time.
Therefore, Martinez will not be able to return to Italy until the eleventh hour.
The Inter captain is not expected back in training for his club until Thursday.
This does not give Martinez a big window of time to get ready for Inter’s first match back from the break.
The Nerazzurri take on Roma next weekend. They travel to the Italian capital to face the Giallorossi on Saturday afternoon.
That means that Martinez has just a couple of days in which to shake off any jet lag from his intercontinental travel after the break, and get sharp again.
This is going to naturally be a tight timeframe for the Argentine.
However, Martinez has been here before. It is nothing new that he is a late returner from international duty.
Therefore, reports the Gazzetta dello Sport, Martinez will start for Roma next Saturday.
