Inter Milan Coach Hails Italy Superstar Following Frosinone Hammering: 'Great Player, He’s Been Proving It For Years'

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi was content with his team’s display against Frosinone, but reserved special praise for Nicolo Barella.

The Nerazzurri scored five goals past Eusebio Di Francesco’s men who suffered an agonizing defeat in front of their home supporters at the Stadio Benito Stirpe.

However, Inzaghi admits that the final result doesn’t tell the whole story. He suggests that the 5-0 win is perhaps flattering for his team, given how the Canarini had their chances to score.

“Technically the boys were very good, especially in possession,” said the Nerazzurri manager in his post-match interview with DAZN via FcInterNews.

“But in the non-possession phase, we risked something, like on Cheddira’s chance. It was an excellent performance, but the result does not reflect the progress of the match.”

Inzaghi dropped Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the bench, giving opportunities to Davide Frattesi and Kristjan Asllani.

This placed more responsibilities on Nicolo Barella, who is proving to be a great player, as the coach tells it.

“We usually have Mkhitaryan who links up the lines. Tonight we played Frattesi who has different characteristics.

“Barella is a great champion, a smart player who knows when to open up, come forward and occupy the space.

“He is a very strong midfielder who has been proving his worth for several years now.”

Inzaghi is also happy for Stefano Sensi who made his return to the pitch, and is hoping Frattesi continues to improve his game.

“I’m glad for Sensi, he worked hard all season trying to nibble away at the space that we weren’t always able to give him.

“I hope Frattesi can confirm his scoring prowess next season. He fitted in immediately and worked hard to reach the finish line.

“All the midfielders did what they had to do, then it’s up to the coach to make the choices.

“I wouldn’t give up any of these guys. Winning the title on April 22nd with a series of records is worth a compliment for all of them.”

Finally, the coach had some words of praise for Yann Sommer and Lautaro Martinez who finally ended his goal drought.

“Is Sommer a leader? Absolutely. He’s not exactly a revelation on the pitch because everyone knows about his great career.

“But he is a great man, an important building block also in the locker room.

“Lautaro and I talked about the drought. But he is our captain who led us to the Scudetto. He must continue on this path.
