Inter Milan could alter their summer transfer plans if Cesc Fabregas becomes coach, with Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij unlikely to stay.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan are working to appoint Como’s Cesc Fabregas as their new head coach after Simone Inzaghi decided to leave the club.
And should the Spaniard come in, it will change the plans for next season significantly.
Clearly, Fabregas will want players who suit his style of football,.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder certainly has clear ideas. He prefers to defend in an aggressive high line, and build attacks with sequences of short passes.
Therefore, Fabregas will want players who fit in with these dictates.
One big change Inter Milan could make if Fabregas arrives would be in central defense.
Francesco Acerbi will turn 38 next season, and Stefan de Vrij 34. Nevertheless, it had looked as though one or even both could stay at the club.
Both Acerbi and de Vrij were trusted stalwarts under Simone Inzaghi.
However, neither of the aging duo would necessarily have the pace and athleticism to defend in Fabregas’s high line.
Therefore, Inter could say goodbye both of the two veterans.
The Nerazzurri will accordingly target quicker centre-backs. The likes of Sam Beukema, Jhon Lucumi, and Koni De Winter are among their major targets.
Meanwhile, the Corriere anticipate, Inter could also make changes in midfield. Davide Frattesi may still be on his way out – while the Nerazzurri could target attacking midfielders and wingers.
