Inter Milan will be facing two “big money giants” from the Premier League in the form of Liverpool and Arsenal in the Champions League.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that the two English heavy-hitters have spent a total of €670 million this summer.
Inter learned which eight teams they’ll face in the Champions League league phase in yesterday’s UEFA draw.
There were a couple names that really stood out among the teams that Inter drew. The Nerazzurri will be facing two Premier League teams in the form of Liverpool and Arsenal.
Last season as well, Inter took on two teams from the English top flight.
The Nerazzurri drew Manchester City 0-0 away in their Champions League opener. Then, they went one better and beat Arsenal 1-0 at the San Siro.
However, Inter will have their work cut out for them if they want to beat Arsenal a second year in a row.
The Gunners have spent massively this summer, bringing in big money signings such as Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have spent just as much as their domestic rivals.
The Reds have broken the English transfer record to bring in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Then, they’ve also made other notable signings such as Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike.
The last time Inter faced Liverpool was in the round of sixteen of the 2021-22 Champions League. And this is a very different team – but hardly a worse one, with big transfer spending certainly playing a role.
As the Gazzetta dello Sport note, between them Liverpool and Arsenal have spent €670 million in the transfer market this summer alone.
