When we hear the name Manchester United, pride and hope come together in our hearts, but last season shattered our hopes. 15th place in the 2024/25 Premier League, and a defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, all these were not easy to swallow. There was some hope after the arrival of Ruben Amorim, but the team could not catch the rhythm throughout the season.
This summer, the club turned over new cards. Signings like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have strengthened the attack. The arrival of young Diogo Leon has also brought energy. The addition of Benjamin Sesko after the lacklustre form of Rasmus Hojlund can give a real edge to our forward line. These changes show that the club have learned from the mistakes of the past.
Now the start is not easy either. The first match is at home against Arsenal. The weaknesses of last season are still fresh. Andre Onana is still the top choice as a goalkeeper, but his mistakes have broken the trust of many fans. The club tried to find new options. Senne Lammens’ name was in the news a lot, but now that story is changing.
23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens has played brilliantly for Royal Antwerp. His agility and reflexes have saved the team on many occasions. There are reports from Sky Sports journalist that Inter Milan are in the race to sign him, and a French club are also after him. We had earlier reported that Manchester United had scouted Lammens throughout this summer transfer window. After Onana’s costly mistakes, Lammens could have been a stable and reliable option for us. The Belgian’s age and talent could have made him a long-term solution.
Still, the club’s decision-making is taking a different turn. Despite links to names like Emi Martinez, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Diogo Costa, Lammens would have been an affordable and promising signing. Now that Inter have taken the initiative, that chance might be gone.
We absolutely think that United have to depend on Onana for the start of the season, at least till the January transfer window. The club have spent a lot this summer and are still struggling to offload the likes of Sancho, Antony and Garnacho. With a shortage of funds and no real initiative in securing any of the goalkeeping targets, it seems like the practical solution for the club will be to provide the backing to the Cameroon international and hope that he gets back to his best form. However, honestly, as we have been speaking all summer, Lammens would have been the best choice in that position, keeping in mind the long-term target of the club. Maybe we still have an outside chance, who knows? The tables might turn in the backend of this window.
