Inter Milan Proclaims ‘We’re Proud’ To Make Cristian Chivu Coach – Adds ‘Our Goals Are The Same As Ever’

Beppe Marotta says Inter Milan are “proud” to name Cristian Chivu as coach, and that his arrival doesn’t change the Nerazzurri’s goals.

Speaking to reporters, via FCInterNews, the Inter President gave his thoughts after the Romanian was officially appointed as the club’s new coach.

Inter Milan have officially confirmed the appointment of Cristian Chivu as their new coach.

The Nerazzurri had already decided upon the 44-year-old to replace Simone Inzaghi a few days ago.

On Thursday, Inter chose Chivu, concluding a search of a couple days. This search had seen them try for Cesc Fabregas, and also reportedly consider Patrick Vieira.

However, in the end, Inter went with Treble-winning former defender Chivu. They called the Romanian, and he agreed to step up.

Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta gave his thoughts on Chivu’s appointment.

“We’re proud of having linked such an historic name for Inter to the role of coach,” he said. Chivu spent six years as a Nerazzurri player before hanging up his boots.

Chivu won the European Treble of the Serie A title, the Champions League, and the Coppa Italia with Inter in the 2009-10 season.

Marotta continued that “I believe modern football clubs must cultivate this connection.”

“Because within this character, there are a lot of positive values.”

The Inter President insisted the club are “satisfied and happy” with their choice to appoint Chivu.

And as far as Inter’s objectives next season as ever, Marotta said they’re “the same ones as ever.”

“The history of Inter says this is the case. Inter participate in competitions to win. Then if someone’s better than us, as happened last season, we’ll take our hats off to them.”

“However, we have to remember that reaching the top isn’t easy,” Marotta stressed.

“Not everyone has reached that far in recent years.”
