Inter secured direct Round-of-16 qualification last season, finishing fourth in the maiden league-phase edition.

Despite severing ties with Simone Inzaghi in the summer, the goal remains the same.

Indeed, the Italian heavyweights are keen to avoid the dreaded playoff round.

Cristian Chivu won on his touchline debut in the Champions League as Inter beat Ajax 2-0 in Amsterdam.

However, there’s no room for complacency, considering the competition has just started.

Therefore, the margin for error is slim. Needless to say, failure is not an option at San Siro against sub-par rivals.

Notably, Inter amassed 19 points last term, with Inzaghi setting the benchmark high for his successor.

Yet, Inter’s chances of making six out of six at the start of the new campaign look decent.
