Inter have chosen Ivan Perisic to shore up their wings, but they’ll have to wait for the final UEFA Champions League group phase round to know whether they have a chance to acquire him from PSV, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

The Dutch team is hanging on to a playoff berth, as they are 22nd, but they’ll face Bayern Munich. Should they get eliminated, the Nerazzurri would have a better shot at convincing them to let the veteran depart. The counterparty has already built a comfortable lead in the Eredivisie.

Perisic is pushing to return to Inter, but the deal will have to go through PSV, which have put everything on hold for a week. The fee would be low. The 37-year-old would likely sign a shorter contract compared to his current one.

The Nerazzurri higher-ups have been searching for a wing-back ever since Denzel Dumfries underwent ankle surgery. Christian Chivu has always been a proponent of a purely offensive-minded player. They were close to Joao Cancelo, but he chose to go back to Barcelona instead.

The management prefers not adding a younger player who would have to get acclimated and level up in a hurry. Other experienced options, for instance, Nahuel Molina, have been nixed because they don’t have the traits the boss is looking for.

Our Take on Inter and Perisic

If they can’t sign a stud, for instance, Marco Palestra, because he’s too expensive or simply unreachable at this time, there are worse ways to kick the can down the road, even if he’d be an uncharacteristic signing for them. At worst, he’ll be a useful weapon off the bench and give the coach more tactical flexibility.
