Sky Sport Italia reports that Parma coach Christian Chivu, a former Inter defender, is now the Nerazzurri’s leading candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi as Como won’t release Cesc Fabregas.

Inter have reportedly opened talks with Parma over Chivu, as the former Romania international has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi at the Stadio Meazza.

Inter open Chivu talks with Parma

According to Sky Sport Italia, Chivu is the preferred option after Inter learned from Como that Fabregas would not leave.

Chivu made his Serie A debut as a coach this past March when he was appointed by Parma, replacing the sacked Fabio Pecchia.

Parma secured survival under Chivu, winning three games, drawing seven and losing three times during his tenure.

Chivu isn’t only a former Inter defender, but already coached the Nerazzurri Primavera, winning the Scudetto in 2022.

The 2010 treble winner spent six seasons at the Stadio Meazza as a footballer and scored three goals in 168 appearances with the Serie A giants.

Como stand firm on Fabregas

“We have communicated our refusal directly to the president of Inter, who has recognised it with the courtesy and clarity that is expected among clubs that have mutual respect,” Como President Mirwan Suwarso said on Thursday.

“For this reason, we treat rumours insistent on their interest in our coach as pure fantasy — hardly anyone would insist after such a clear answer. Especially a club of the calibre of Inter.”
