Coach Simone Inzaghi is considering using a moderately rotated side for Inter’s first clash after the international break at Verona, with their captain Lautaro Martinez seemingly set to start on the bench.
A congested fixture list will see the Nerazzurri play nine games until the end of the year, and Inzaghi wants to make wise use of his players’ energy, especially to prevent his main stars from accumulating excessive fatigue.
Coming off a particularly tiring summer, which saw him take part in the Copa America with Argentina and cut his holiday to join Inter for the pre-season earlier than expected, Lautaro’s fitness has been a topic of discussion in recent weeks, as he often looked far from his best form.
This is why, after watching his striker play and score in two consecutive matches with La Seleccion during the last international break, Inzaghi thinks of initially resting him against Verona to give a chance to one of the players he’s used the least until now.
As reported by Sky Sport Italia, Joaquin Correa should start alongside Marcus Thuram up front in what would be only his fourth Serie A appearance this season, as he put together as few as 38 minutes so far, every time coming on as a substitute.
Correa’s first start would come in a must-win game for Inter, as they can’t afford to drop more points after drawing two of their last four Serie A games and missing out on the chance to overtake Napoli at the top of the table in their last fixture before the two-week hiatus.
