Expectations were high when Inter signed Mehdi Taremi from Porto on a Bosman deal last summer.
Despite moving to Serie A in the autumn of his playing career, the Iranian striker arrived as an elite goal-scorer.
However, nothing went his way at San Siro.
Forced to the shadows by Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, he only made seven league starts last season.
In total, Taremi collected 43 appearances for Inter in all competitions, racking up three goals and nine assists.
Given his underwhelming scoring output, Inter’s decision to put him up for sale barely surprised anyone.
Yet, they had to wait until late in the summer to offload their flop.
Indeed, Olympiacos signed Taremi on deadline day for a reported fee of €2.5 million.
As aforementioned, Taremi felt compelled to thank the club, his teammates, and the fans for their support.
In a heartfelt farewell on Instagram, he waved goodbye to the Serie A runners-up.
“It’s hard to say goodbye to a shirt and to people I have truly come to love,” he wrote.
“Thank you, Inter, thank you to my teammates, the staff, and above all to you fans, for the immense affection you’ve shown me.
“I will always carry San Siro, the emotions, and your passion with me.
“Inter will forever remain in my heart, and with gratitude, I bid you all farewell, wishing you continued success!
“With affection, Mehdi Taremi.”
Despite selling Taremi, Inter failed to add to their attacking options in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
Therefore, all eyes will be on Ange-Yoan Bonny and Francesco Pio Esposito.
