'It would make sense'- Tottenham can bring iconic figure back to N17 if trophies become the norm under Thomas Frank

Harry Kane could make an emotional return to Tottenham Hotspur as long as trophies continue to flow at N17

Just like Tottenham, Harry Kane is also enjoying a brilliant start to the new season. In just ten matches across all competitions, the England international has already netted 18 goals and provided three assists for Bayern Munich. To make it even more impressive, the 32-year-old recently became the fastest player to reach 100 goals for a single club, achieving the milestone in just 104 games.

This just proves that Kane still has a lot to give and is one of the most complete strikers of this generation. Thanks to his prolific form, Bayern look favourites to lift yet another Bundesliga trophy this season as well. The England international is also showcasing a different dynamic to his game under Vincent Kompany after being deployed in the #10 role this season, helping him showcase his creative side in addition to his usual goal-scoring prowess.

However, Kane’s sparkling form in Germany has reignited a familiar question in the minds of Spurs fans: Did he make the right decision leaving Tottenham for Bayern Munich? There’s little doubt that had Kane stayed at N17, he would have likely surpassed Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal-scoring record. Michael Owen recently echoed that sentiment, questioning the timing of Kane’s move to the Bundesliga and suggesting that the ex-Spurs captain still had much more to achieve in England.

Tottenham looking to re-sign Harry Kane next summer

Despite Harry Kane’s insistence that he is willing to negotiate a new contract with Bayern Munich in the coming months, there is a real possibility that he may just look to come back to N17 next summer. The 32-year-old’s current contract has a £56.7m release clause that gets activated in January. This may just give the Lilywhites an opportunity to tempt him to come back to Hotspur Way eventually.

Adding fuel to the rumours, Jermain Defoe has shared his thoughts on Kane’s potential return to Spurs. Speaking to Hayters TV, Defoe said,

“I don’t know, to be honest. It depends what he wants to do, he’s an iconic figure at the club. The only thing driving him at the moment is probably the trophies, let’s hope he can get a few more and if he’s done that, then he can come back to Tottenham and win a couple. If it happens, it would make sense, but you just don’t know what he’s thinking.”

Defoe believes that the prospect of winning a trophy with his boyhood club could be the key factor that draws Kane back to North London. The striker left Tottenham just before they lifted the Europa League title last season, and returning to win silverware with the Lilywhites, along with breaking Shearer’s record, would certainly complete his legacy.

Re-signing Harry Kane next summer could go down as one of Tottenham’s smartest moves in years. The England captain would slot seamlessly into Thomas Frank’s system, adding world-class quality and leadership to an already exciting attack. Reports also suggest that the Danish tactician has welcomed the idea of bringing Kane back, potentially paving the way for one of the most emotional homecomings in Premier League history.
