Inter Milan defenders Alessandro Bastoni and Benjamin Pavard have received criticism for subpar performances in a friendly against Monaco.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, name the pair as two of Inter’s worst performers.
Inter Milan faced Monaco in a friendly match yesterday evening.
The Nerazzurri went behind within a couple minutes. Maghnes Akliouche capitalized on some sloppy defending to give the Ligue 1 side an early lead.
Then, things went from bad to worse after Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu received a red card.
However, Inter came back in the second half of the match.
Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez managed to find the equalizer, despite his team being at a numerical disadvantage.
Then, it was summer signing Ange-Yoan Bonny who came off the bench to score the winner.
Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport argue that two Inter defenders bore particular blame for their team going behind so early.
First of all, Pavard was culpable with a loose pass that gave away possession in a dangerous area.
Then, Bastoni looked slow to close down the spaces once Monaco went on the attack.
Both of the two defenders were showing some lack of condition and sharpness. Therefore, they’ll have plenty of work to do getting ready for the new season.
