Italy Veteran Admits ‘Losing Two Champions League Finals In Three Years Hurts’ – But Insists ‘Inter Milan Have Still Had A Great Season’

Francesco Acerbi admits that losing two Champions League finals in the space of three years “hurts” for Inter Milan.

The Italian international spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after yesterday’s 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Inter Milan did not just lose in yesterday’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nerazzurri conceded a shocking five goals.

And at the other end of the pitch, there didn’t look to be much chance of Inter finding the back of the net.

On both and physical and a technical level, PSG just looked several steps ahead of Inter.

The Nerazzurri showed their age and a bit of mental and physical fatigue. The result was nothing short of humiliation on the biggest stage in European football.

There is also the fact that this is not the first time that this Inter team lost a Champions League final.

Seven out of the Nerazzurri starting eleven against PSG had also started against Manchester City two years ago.

On that occasion, Inter lost by a narrow 1-0 scoreline. Nothing like yesterday’s absolute blowout.

But the disappointment remains. And the feeling can only compound now that Inter are back where they started from in 2023.

Inter defender Francesco Acerbi admitted that “reaching the Champions League final for the second time in three years and failing to win again hurts.”

“However, the journey here was thrilling for us,” he continued.

“It always helps to grow and improve.”

“Two years ago against City, we thought we could play a good match against a world-class team,” Acerbi said. “We made things hard for them, but lacked a bit of something to win it.”

Against PSG, meanwhile, Acerbi said that Inter “seemed quite calm and focused.”

“But then we were blocked off. And they were going twice as hard as us.”

“It’s hard to say it without any trophies,” Acerbi continued, “but I think it was a great season.”

The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender insisted that “we gave everything we could give.”
