Inter Milan legend Ivan Zamorano is hoping to see Francisco Pio Esposito receive the sort of playing time befitting his talent.
The 19-year-old is the youngest of three brothers who rose through the Nerazzurri ranks. Many consider him the most promising of the trio.
The young striker spent the last two campaigns on loan at Spezia with his older brother Salvatore. The latter had joined the Ligurian club on a permanent basis.
This season, he almost helped Spezia earn a promotion to the Italian top flight. He contributed with 17 goals and four assists in 35 Serie B appearances. He also scored twice and produced one assist in his four play-off outings. However, the Aquilotti felt short against Cremonese in the final.
Esposito has now rejoined Inter’s senior squad that is currently participating in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Due to the lack of options in attack, Francesco Pio has been able to share a starting berth with his other brother, Sebastiano.
The teenager missed the opening fixture against Monterrey due to a knee problem. He then made his CWC debut off the bench against Urawa Red Diamonds and produced an assist.
In the final group-stage matchday, Christian Chivu gave him a starting spot, and he returned the favour by scoring in the 2-0 victory.
Therefore, Esposito’s exploits have helped the Serie A giants book their place in the Round of 16. They will take on Fluminense at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday. Sadly for Esposito, he might miss the contest due to a knock. Nevertheless, Zamorano is eager to see more of him in the future.
“The attack is strong with Lautaro and Thuram, they are very good, but I also liked Esposito’s displays at the Club World Cup,” said the Chilean legend in his interview with Radio Sportiva via FcInterNews.
“He deserves to get even more minutes on the pitch and you can see that he has so much desire to do well.
“I don’t know why in South America the youngsters play more, while Italians tend to buy their youngsters from abroad.
“Italian youngsters play less, but I hope that Pio Esposito finds the right space.”
