Everton midfielder Jack Grealish did not appear in the squad for Monday’s 1-0 Premier League victory at Newcastle United, with the club stating he was “not match fit.”
Thierno Barry scored the only goal at St James’ Park. Everton had also defeated Newcastle 3-1 in the Carabao Cup four days earlier — a match in which Grealish was omitted for disciplinary reasons.
Grealish missed Everton’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal on October 24 due to illness. He has made six appearances for Everton this season on loan from Manchester City.
Manager David Moyes said after Monday’s match that Grealish is “not available yet.” When asked whether Grealish has a longer-term path back into the team, Moyes replied, “Of course there is, yeah.”
Grealish is on his second consecutive season-long loan with Everton. Last season, he recorded two goals and six assists in 20 appearances before a foot injury ended his campaign in January.
