Jadon Sancho has become an unexpected problem for Manchester United this season, following Chelsea’s decision to activate his penalty clause that prevented him from joining their squad.

His presence remains a reminder of the club’s recent past, even as Ruben Amorim looks to move the team forward.

Early in the transfer window, links between Sancho and Juventus started picking up, but talk has slowed down since then. The club seems to be focusing on Sergio Conceicao instead.

Inter Milan have also shown interest recently, but Nottingham Forest have emerged as a surprise contender. United in Focus brings you the latest on how this situation is unfolding.

Where Sancho’s transfer situation stands

Sancho’s transfer situation took an unexpected turn recently when a new club entered the mix.

Despite Chelsea having activated his penalty clause and his Premier League form being unconvincing, there were still reports linking him to another English side.

Nottingham Forest were said to be interested, hoping to repeat the success they had with Anthony Elanga.

Elanga, while not unprofessional at Manchester United, had clearly reached the end of his time there. Many saw Forest as a step down for him at the time.

But after moving to Newcastle for £55 million, Elanga proved how much value can be rebuilt away from Old Trafford.

Recent reports suggested Forest wanted to do something similar with Sancho. However, United in Focus has learned that it is a ‘complicated deal’ and that Forest are not looking to get involved.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey told United in Focus: “There is interest in Sancho, but nobody is close. We have seen Inter Milan come in the last week, but talk of Nottingham Forest, I am told, is wide of the mark.”

Sancho transfer update

Sancho’s transfer situation took a turn recently when an unexpected name entered the conversation.

Despite the penalty clause being triggered by Chelsea and Sancho’s unremarkable Premier League form, one English club was reportedly still interested.

There were suggestions that Nottingham Forest had shown interest in Sancho, possibly hoping to repeat the success they had with Anthony Elanga.

Elanga wasn’t seen as a problem at Manchester United, but his time there was clearly up, and many viewed Forest as a step down at the time.

Since then, Elanga has moved on to Newcastle in a £55m deal, showing how clubs can help rebuild a player’s value.

Forest were reportedly looking to do something similar with Sancho, but United in Focus understands that the complexity of any potential deal is proving too much for them to pursue. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey told us:

“There is interest in Sancho, but nobody is close. We have seen Inter Milan come in the last week, but talk of Nottingham Forest, I am told, is wide of the mark.”

“Sancho is a very complicated deal for anyone to do.”

Why Jadon Sancho will be hard to move

The wages are huge. The history of unprofessionalism well-documented. And it’s not like he’s been playing well enough for anyone to ignore those issues either.

Add into that Manchester United have made it clear he isn’t wanted at Old Trafford anymore and it becomes even harder to find him a new home.
