The coach of Canada's national team, Jesse Marsch, sent a message to Mauricio Pochettino after revealing that U.S. Soccer had promised him the USMNT manager job.
"I like Mauricio [Pochettino], and I want the USMNT to do well," Marsch said, via Men In Blazers.
"I want the sport in the country to be successful and to continue to grow. I want the players that I've coached or know and the team to be successful."
Still, Marsch made clear that when the USMNT faces Canada, he will not wish them well. "But my only thing is, when they play us, I want them to lose!"
Marsch revealed that he received a call from U.S. Soccer when he was processing his visa in Leicester. That caused him to change course. "I think things happen for a reason, and I'm happy with where I am right now," he said.
The former Leeds United coach revealed that when he was suddenly told he would not be the USMNT coach, he was devastated and angry, making clear that today he is happy.
Before arriving at CANMNT, Marsch coached Leeds United between 2022 and 2023, after being dismissed from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig following five months in the role.
Between 2019 and 2021, he had one of the most successful periods of his career at RB Salzburg.
CANMNT's next scheduled friendly matches are against Iceland on Saturday, March 28, and against Tunisia on Tuesday, March 31.
