Jhon Lucumi agrees to join club

Jhon Lucumi has been heavily linked with Manchester United this summer as Michael Carrick continues reshaping his squad.

The Colombian defender has been on United’s radar for several weeks after establishing himself as one of Serie A’s most reliable centre-backs.

Lucumi began his senior career with Deportivo Cali before moving to Genk in 2018.

He won the Belgian league title during his time there before later joining Bologna in 2022.

The 28-year-old has since made more than 150 appearances for the Italian side and helped them win the Coppa Italia.

He is also a regular for Colombia and has represented his country at major international tournaments.

Lucumi’s profile has attracted United because he is left-footed, physically strong and comfortable defending in a high line.

CentreDevils previously reported that Manchester United had renewed contact over a possible deal.

United have already signed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow, Kit Margetson and Tynan Thompson this summer.

A third midfielder remains a priority, although defensive reinforcements have also been considered.

Lucumi’s situation has now taken a major step, but not in United’s favour.

Fresh agreement reached over Jhon Lucumi

According to GOAL, Jhon Lucumi has reached an agreement in principle to join Juventus.

The report states that the defender has agreed a five-year contract worth around €2.5 million per season.

Juventus are now continuing negotiations with Bologna over the transfer fee.

The Serie A giants are reportedly ready to offer €20 million plus bonuses.

Bologna are said to prefer a cash deal and have rejected attempts to include players in the agreement.

GOAL adds that only a few details remain before the transfer can be completed.

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is understood to view Lucumi as an ideal addition to his defence.

The defender’s pace, aggression and ability to build from the back are all said to have impressed him.

For Manchester United, the development could now force the club to look elsewhere if they still want to add another centre-back before the window closes.
