Joao Pedro actually improved under Liam Rosenior compared to Enzo Maresca, and he’s explained why that might be.

Joao Pedro was on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast this week, and he had some really interesting things to say about his impressive first season with Chelsea.

The Brazilian really kicked up a gear in the second part of the season, and seemed to be one of a small number of players who did better under Liam Rosenior than Enzo Maresca. Perhaps his answer to his style of play reveals why that is.

Joao Pedro on his coaches and preferred style

“Sometimes you get some coaches who don’t want you to move a lot, they say: ‘you need to stay there and run to the first post’, but sometimes the ball doesn’t come to the first post. So how do you get goals?,” Joao Pedro explained.

“I need to smell where the ball is gonna come, I have to be there. So today I have freedom, I feel able to do what I like to do, and I think now people can see I’m not just the guy who stays there and taps in, I can do something different.”

Let’s hop Xabi Alonso is listening to all this…

Man City are focused on Elliot Anderson, meaning any Enzo Fernandez hopes of moving there to link up with Enzo Maresca are pretty slim.

Simon Phillips has an exclusive over Marc Cucurella – the left back will apparently ask to leave Chelsea this summer.
