Jose Herrera breaks silence on joining Manchester United

Manchester United made their latest step towards improvement earlier this week, adding Jose Herrera to their ranks ahead of the rest of the season.

United made lengthy efforts during the summer transfer window to put Michael Carrick’s squad in the right place, including signing midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

Whilst there is a feeling that there is still room to improve, the Red Devils are now focused on working with what they have and striving to match last season’s impressive totals.

Whilst Michael Carrick will lead that operation, having secured the permanent managerial post in the summer, Eva Olid started her reign as manager of Manchester United Women this season, too.

Following a difficult start to the season, losing their opening two Women’s Super League games of the campaign, the side are now unbeaten in their last four across all competitions having beaten Liverpool yesterday.

Herrera joins that operation as an Assistant Head Coach and, with crucial ties against Charlton Athletic, Liverpool, and Manchester City all to come, his work starts immediately.

His enthusiasm for the role can be seen on his latest Instagram post, captioned: “I’m delighted to be joining @manutdwomen as Assistant Head Coach.

“I’m so excited to be part of @evaolid Coaching Staff and to start this journey together.

“Thank you to the talented players for their warm welcome!

“Let’s go United!”

Charlton first. Then Liverpool in the League Cup. Both are crucial, with Jose Herrera in charge of guiding both Olid and the squad in the right direction ahead of the match.

Victory in both games would see the team go to six games unbeaten. Defeat could mean a setback in their aim for success.

It is now down to Herrera to ensure that the team land on the right side of these fixtures.
