Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on signing Celtic’s Daizen Maeda this summer. The 27-year-old cleared up with the Player of the Year accolades in Scotland over the 2024/25 campaign, showing impressive goal scoring form which will have caught the attention of clubs across Europe.
As reported by Turkish outlet Takvim, Mourinho, who is entering his second season with the Turkish Giants, and is reportedly keen to add attacking options with Maeda satisfying his desire for pace and power.
The report states that the versatile forward is attracting interest from around Europe with his scintillating goalscoring form catching the eye. Maeda moved through the middle after Kyogo left for Rennes and the player didn’t look back. Maeda scored 33 goals and assisted 12 times in 51 appearances as Celtic retained the Scottish Premiership while regaining the Premier Sports Cup, being rewarded with the Player of the Year Award, Players’ Player of the Year, PFA Scotland Player of the Year as well as the SFWA Player of the Year.
Celtic are expected to offer Maeda, as well as Reo Hatate and Nicolas Kühn, improved terms. Brendan wants his side to be in the best possible shape to compete in Europe next season along with domestic dominance. Celtic will look to sign Mathias Kvistgaarden this summer with the Danish striker expected to be made available for £10m. The 23-year-old has been tracked by Celtic for the last two seasons and it is expected that a move will be made as the club look to replace Kyogo.
The Istanbul side sit ten points adrift of Galatasaray, who have secured the Süper Lig, which Mourinho will want to ensure is not repeated next season. The Portuguese manager, who has enjoyed success at every club that he has been to – with the exception of Spurs – will want to add trophies in Turkey to his trophy haul. In order to do this, the manager will want to add a number of players to his ranks but hopefully Maeda is not one of them.
