Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Manchester United has been a disappointing one as the former Bologna man has failed to impress and establish himself under Ruben Amorim.

Having joined in summer 2024, Zirkzee arrived as a back-up option to Rasmus Hojlund who was struggling for consistency at Old Trafford.

However, after last season, with United having their worst Premier League campaign on record, Amorim opted to loan out Hojlund, sign RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, and side-line Zirkzee.

That said, up until now, The Red Devils haven’t wanted to get rid of Zirkzee, with Amorim still believing he has potential to develop into his system.

Now, the tune seems to have changed, with Corriere dello Sport revealing, as reported by SportWitness, that United are wanting a loan deal for Joshua Zirkzee in January as well as an option to buy.

The transfer fee is understood to be set at between £22 million and £26 million (€25 million and €30 million) with Zirkzee already agreeing to join AS Roma.

At this time, Roma are reportedly only interested in a loan deal for the remainder of the season, but they aren’t the only Italian side interested, with Como having also been linked.

However, United could be reliant on Zirkzee throughout December and early January prior to any potential move.

With the Africa Cup of Nations taking Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo from Amorim’s side, along with Sesko’s injury, Zirkzee is one of the few senior attacking options left.

As such, Amorim could find himself needin to keep the former Netherlands international, especially should Mbeumo or Diallo suffer an injury whilst on international duty.
