Manchester United’s attacking department could still undergo further changes before the transfer window closes.
While much of the focus has been on arrivals, there are still questions surrounding a number of players whose futures remain uncertain at Old Trafford.
One of those is Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch striker endured a frustrating spell following his arrival at United and has consistently been linked with a move away, although recent circumstances may yet alter the club’s thinking.
Now, another European giant has entered the picture once again.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have reopened talks over a move for Joshua Zirkzee after making fresh enquiries to Manchester United regarding the striker’s availability.
The Italian club are searching for a replacement following the recent departure of Dusan Vlahovic, with Zirkzee emerging as one of the names on their shortlist.
Juventus are understood to have contacted United to establish the conditions of a possible transfer, with the Red Devils reportedly valuing the 25-year-old at between €35 million and €40 million.
This is far from the first time the Turin giants have explored a move.
Juventus also attempted to sign Zirkzee during the summer of 2024, while another approach was made during the January transfer window earlier this year, but neither move progressed.
Interest in the striker has also stretched beyond Turin.
Back in April, reports claimed Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna held significant discussions with Zirkzee’s representatives over the possibility of bringing the Dutch international to Naples.
Although his time at Manchester United has not gone to plan, Zirkzee’s reputation was built long before arriving in England.
During the 2023/24 campaign with Bologna, the striker enjoyed the best season of his career, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists in 37 appearances, performances that earned him regular call-ups to the Netherlands national team and attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
His form has not reached those levels since moving to Old Trafford, leading to increasing speculation that United could be prepared to cash in.
However, a transfer is far from guaranteed.
With Benjamin Sesko currently sidelined through injury, Manchester United may yet decide to keep Zirkzee as additional cover while Carrick assesses his attacking options ahead of the new season.
Whether Juventus finally succeed at the third attempt remains to be seen, but their interest in the Dutch forward clearly hasn’t disappeared.
