Juventus 4-3 Inter Milan: Ageing Defence Struggling To Prevent Goals

After Inter Milan suffered a 4-3 Derby d’Italia loss to Juventus on Saturday, the Italian press claims the Nerazzurri defence is in dire need of rejuvenation.

According to today’s edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FcInterNews, Inter’s average of 2 goals conceded per game is a cause for major concern.

The Nerazzurri have had their worst start to a Serie A season in nearly 15 years.

The 4-3 loss to Juventus was emblematic of the team’s defensive woes, with goalkeeper Yann Sommer failing to save a single shot.

‘Dulled Reflexes’ Cost Inter Milan In Juventus Defeat

The Gazzetta highlight the age of 36-year-old goalkeeper Sommer.

The newspaper describe the “suddenly dulled reflexes” of the Swiss international, after he conceded two long-range efforts to the Bianconeri.

Francesco Acerbi is another ageing part of the Inter defence.

The centre back has played in three out of three games so far at the age of 37.

Finally, the outlet concludes with determining the concerns this season mirror those at the end of last season.

In the space of a month, Inter crashed out of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League – despite being on the verge of lifting silverware.
