Manchester United appear to be moving closer to resolving Jadon Sancho’s future, with Juventus emerging as the favourites to get a deal done.
Sancho’s proposed move to Chelsea fell through earlier this summer, with the Blues agreeing to pay a reported £5 million penalty fee after the winger refused to accept a significant wage reduction.
Since then, the task of finding Sancho a new club has fallen to Ineos, after the player’s departure from Old Trafford left little chance of a return under any circumstances.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been linked with a move for Sancho to join him at Besiktas, it is Juventus who have taken concrete steps towards bringing the 25-year-old to Turin.
Sancho is currently on a £325,000 per week contract with United, a figure that has complicated any attempts to move him on this summer, especially given his reluctance to accept a pay cut.
Although Juventus are prepared to meet United’s transfer fee, they have been clear that Sancho will need to accept reduced terms if a deal is to be finalised.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, Juventus put an initial contract worth €5 million per season, which equates to around £83,000 per week, a figure well below what Sancho earns at Old Trafford.
His camp wasn’t happy with that figure, however, and while the Italian side will increase their offer, Sancho will still be facing a significant pay drop if he wants the move.
Ruben Amorim’s first real day in charge saw United return to pre-season training, with some key decisions being made on who would – and who wouldn’t – be involved.
Sancho is one of several players who have been told they won’t be part of the group this summer as the club prepares to move them on in the transfer window.
Sancho seems likely to be the first out of the door, giving United a bit of momentum as they look to reshape the squad ahead of the new season.
Strong links remain to players like Bryan Mbeumo, but without further sales, United may find it difficult to add more names to their squad before the end of the window.
