This summer was a vital transfer window for Manchester United as they rolled out the first phase of their squad transformation for Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils culled all their natural wingers, barring Amad Diallo, bringing in second strikers Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in their place for a more centralised attacking three.

Rasmus Hojlund was shipped off to Napoli on loan, with Benjamin Sesko arriving in his place, while Senne Lammens arrived as a deadline day signing, with Andre Onana heading to Trabzonspor in Turkey on loan.

As such United addressed all their transfer priorities for the summer except one, signing a new midfielder.

Whilst Carlos Baleba was approached for a move, with Brighton wanting £120 million for his services, Sporting CP’s captain Morten Hjulmand was also approached with a bid of £35 million for Ruben Amorim’s former midfielder.

The Red Devils were seemingly trying to capitalise on the fractious relationship between Hjulmand and Sporting, as the two parties appeared to have a breakdown in their relationship over his release clause of £53 million.

Now, Calcio Mercato has reported that Juventus are now looking at the Sporting star, with the Denmark international standing out as their key target.

Whislt Sandro Tonali and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are also names on their list, it’s Hjulmand who firmly holds the top spot.

For United, this doesn’t appear to have much impact given that the Red Devils are firmly targeting more proven Premier League stars in the form of Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton alongside Carlos Baleba.

However, given the longstanding relationship Ruben Amorim had with Morten Hjulmand in the Portuguese capital, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that United could launch another attack for the Sporting midfielder.
