Kai Rooney offered new deal at Manchester United

Kai Rooney is causing massive waves of excitement during his time in the Manchester United academy.

Admittedly, some of this is linked to his record-breaking father, Wayne Rooney, who is still Manchester United’s all-time top goal scorer.

Despite hanging up his boots in 2021, having left United in 2017, his 253 goals in 559 games is still completely unmatched.

Of the current squad, not including Marcus Rashford, who’s United career seems to be at an end with his loan spell at Barcelona, club captain Bruno Fernandes is the closest to this tally with 103 goals in 313 games.

However, another Rooney could be set to make his mark in the senior squad, as 16-year-old Kai Rooney has been offered a new deal.

The Sun has reported that Kai Rooney has been offered a formal one-year scholarship with United to start when he finishes school in the summer.

At the end of the scholarship, it would then become a three-year professional contract, seeing him earn £50,000 per year, with an annual signing-on fee included.

The 16-year-old striker is one of 14 talented teenagers in the academy to be offered new deals, with a wealth of skill coming and potential coming through the youth ranks.

Jacey Carrick, the son of current United caretaker manager Michael Carrick, is another one of the youngsters to be offered a new deal to stay at Carrington after the summer.

A source close to the situation commented: “The group is very strong and the majority of the boys including Kai and Jacey have been offered deals.”

The continued: “It means when they finish school they can go into full-time ‘football employment’ and then when they turn 17 are guaranteed a pro status.

“They still have a long way to go to make the grade, but they can be very proud that the club thinks they have a chance of making it.”
