Marc Cucurella’s explosive interview today sees him lay bare the facts about what’s going on in Chelsea’s dressing room.
The Athletic today have an interview with Marc Cucurella, who as well as pointing to a lack of experience in the dressing room, has criticised the club’s transfer policy overall, and hinted that he and other top players won’t stick around if it continues.
“I understand this is part of the club’s policy, and that they want to take this direction — signing young players and looking to the future. But, for all of us who are still here and want to win big things, moments like this make you feel discouraged,” the full back admitted.
“We have a good core of players. The foundations are there. But to fight for major trophies such as the Premier League or the Champions League, you need more. Signing young players only might complicate achieving those goals. Against PSG, we lacked players that had gone through situations like that.”
In a way, this is even more worrying than Enzo Fernandez’s vague comments about wanting to leave. This shows that senior players like Cucurella are thinking about and talking about the exact same frustrations that the fans are, and are concluding that their futures are best served by leaving.
There is also at least a faint hope that these very direct comments from a player will help wake up those in charge to see what the rest of us are seeing.
