Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo gave an outstanding performance in his first-ever start for England on Tuesday night in a 2-2 draw against Belgium.

Mainoo is inevitably going to be part of the conversation for Euro 2024 after showcasing two strong performances for the Three Lions in March.

The 18-year-old could not ask for a better start to life as an England player in terms of his performance and impact, but injuries have left Gareth Southgate’s side looking shaky at the back. The Three Lions also need better results by the time the European Championship kicks off because they managed no wins from their two March friendlies.

Last night it was a matter of Mainoo and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham getting Jordan Pickford and Lewis Dunk out of jail, as their errors led to Youri Tielemans scoring a brace for the visitors.

The United youngster played a key role in the build-up play for England’s penalty as Ivan Toney made it 1- in the first-half.

Mainoo was rewarded for his performance against Belgium when he was handed an award for England’s Player of the Match on the night.

“It’s an honour to get called up and to play for England,” Mainoo said.

Meanwhile, The Independent rated Mainoo’s performance 8/10. Will Castle explained his rating by writing: “Put in a very encouraging first-half display from the teenager, slotting Toney through to force Vertonghen into giving away a penalty. Really energetic in the centre of the park, fighting for the ball and using possession well. Could have even had a goal, storming into the box to drill one at Sels’ goal, one to be denied. Living up to the hype, much?”

Mainoo will now return to United with the rest of his teammates ahead of Saturday night’s clash with Brentford in the Premier League.
