Kobbie Mainoo enjoyed a brilliant start to life in the Manchester United first team.
In the 2023/24 season, he made 32 appearances for the club during across all competitions and became a key part of England’s EURO 2024 squad that made the final.
In the space of one week in January 2024, Mainoo scored his first goal for the club in an FA Cup win against Newport County and later scored a stoppage time winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, it has been a struggle for Mainoo since.
He has struggled for gametime from the moment Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager.
Prior to the Dutchman being relieved of his duties, he struggled on the pitch and was caught out during a 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool where he lost possession cheaply to Alexis Mac Allister for their third.
Under Ruben Amorim, he has failed to claim a place in the starting 11 and this has led to much media speculation.
The Daily Mail have reported that Mainoo is wanted by 12 clubs, but the preference he has would be to join Serie A side Napoli.
A loan deal is being touted as his way out of the situation he currently finds himself in, after requesting to join the Italian side in the summer.
It is said that the final decision will be made by chief executive Omar Berrada, director of football Jason Wilcox and Amorim.
The news comes after Napoli assistant Giovanni Manna claimed the transfer was 99% done.
It also comes after several former United players voiced their concern about Mainoo’s situation and that they felt he needed to leave.
Mainoo came off the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers last night in their 4-1, but he only came on in the 78th minute.
With the beginning of the January transfer window less than a month away, there will soon be a development in the Mainoo United saga.
