Andy Robertson has stated that he believes Celtic defender Kieran Tierney will play an important role in the future of the Scotland national team…
Another injury setback meant the left-back had to pull out of the Scotland squad ahead of the last night’s World Cup qualifier opener against Denmark and Belarus on Monday.
Anthony Ralston was another Celtic defender to withdraw from Steve Clarke’s squad through injury, with Josh Doig called up as his replacement.
Now, Robertson explained that Tierney’s issue is only a contact injury and isn’t expected to sideline him for long which is good news for Celtic supporters. However, the Liverpool star revealed he feels deeply disappointed for his Scotland teammate.
Speaking via the Glasgow Times, Robertson said: “KT still has a big future for Scotland, 100 percent. He’s a fantastic player and character.
“It’s just unfortunate that he’s turned up for camp, had a scan and it has ruled him out of both games. It’s disappointing for him and the squad because he’s grown into a massive part of our team.”
Robertson added: “It’s great to see him back for Celtic playing every week. The next step for KT is to play 90 minutes and he knows that. He’s getting closer. This is a contact injury so it’s not like he’s had a setback.”
“He’s just been in Kazakhstan and played in a (Glasgow Derby) game – and we know how tasty those games are. The timing is unfortunate but it won’t set him back for too long and hopefully in October he’ll be back in a Scotland jersey.”
Tierney has had a difficult time at Celtic since his return as it is clear to see that he is not 100% fully fit. This has been exemplified by Brendan Rodgers bringing him off around the 70-minute mark in every competitive match since the beginning of the season.
