Kylian Mbappe isn’t even better than Brahim Diaz in one key area

Real Marid superstar forward Kylian Mbappe has been the team’s brightest spot from a goal scoring perspective, but as Real continue to disappoint in the table while Mbappe racks up the goals, Madridistas can’t help but wonder if, like at PSG, Mbappe is holding the team back for his own personal gain.

That was a common theme throughout the 2024/25 season when Mbappe won the European Golden Boot yet Real came up trophyless after winning La Liga and the Champions League without him, while Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, and Jude Bellingham all looked worse with him.

Looking at the statistics of the year 2025, Mbappe is breaking records in terms of goal scoring, rivaling legends like Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi with an insane 66 goals.

But alongside those 66 goals, Mbappe has just 5 assists in the year 2025. That is awful. Mbappe’s 5 assists this year equal Brahim Diaz’s, even though Brahim does not play in most games.

Vinicius Junior, Arda Guler, Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, and Rodrygo Goes all have more assists than Mbappe this year, meaning Mbappe is the least effective of the main attacking players at creating clear cut opportunities for others.

That’s a huge problem. Mbappe is scoring goals at a historic rate, but his assists are far lower than Messi or Cristiano, cementing the fact that he is nowhere near those legends in terms of all around quality.

Mbappe has to improve his output creatively. If he wants to be a striker who plays outside the box and runs outisde the area, then he needs to start creating like an all around striker.

Harry Kane, Karim Benzema, and other No. 9’s who drop deep and demand the ball are also more productive for their teammates. Mbappe is a wonderful footballer, but if he wants to truly build a legacy as an all timer, he has to do better than this in phases of the game besides scoring for himself.
