LA Galaxy release official statement after Casemiro tampering allegations

Casemiro officially completed his move to Inter Miami earlier today after leaving Manchester United at the end of his contract.

However, the transfer continues to generate headlines for reasons beyond the pitch.

The Brazilian midfielder brought an end to a successful spell at Old Trafford after helping Michael Carrick guide United back into the Champions League.

However, shortly after the transfer was confirmed, Major League Soccer announced it had opened an investigation into Inter Miami over an alleged breach of the league’s tampering rules.

According to a report we covered from The Athletic, the issue centres around MLS’ discovery rights system, with LA Galaxy holding priority rights to negotiate for Casemiro before Inter Miami completed the move.

The league confirmed it would not comment further until the investigation concludes.

LA Galaxy respond with official statement

LA Galaxy have now issued an official statement through the club’s X account regarding the situation.

The MLS side confirmed they have reached a settlement with Inter Miami concerning the discovery priority rights for Casemiro.

However, the financial details of that agreement will not be made public until Major League Soccer completes its ongoing tampering investigation.

LA Galaxy Galaxy posted:

“The LA Galaxy and Inter Miami CF have reached a settlement for the Discovery priority to sign Casemiro, and the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation currently open with Major League Soccer.”

The statement is the first official response from LA Galaxy since MLS confirmed the investigation.

It also indicates that an agreement has already been reached between the two clubs, although supporters will have to wait before learning the value of the settlement.

Casemiro joined Inter Miami on a deal running until 2027, with the option to extend for a further two years.

The 34-year-old leaves Manchester United after winning both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, making more than 150 appearances and playing a key role in securing Champions League qualification last season.

MLS are expected to provide further updates once their investigation has been completed.
