Giovanni Reyna has currently found himself in no man's land with the player's reported move to Parma hitting a standstill. The Borussia Dortmund star has been linked with a move to the Italian side, but it seems like negotiations have hit a roadblock with Parma falling $3 million short of Dortmund's asking price.
Amidst all this, the American midfielder has also been linked with a return to the United States, with Major League Soccer side LAFC reportedly interested in his services. With USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino ensuring that where Reyna plays doesn't matter, it's about his performance, a move back to home soil could be very beneficial for the out-of-favor star.
While fans in the United States will be pleased at the prospect of having one of their top stars back in the home country, not everyone agrees. Former American star Tony Meola touched on Giovanni Reyna's potential move to LAFC in his recent appearance on CBS Sports Golazo.
Talking about the potential transfer, Meola stated, "It shows a lot of things. It shows that he can't find a spot in Europe, and then here someone says, Hey, you are a starter here. I'm sure if he comes back to MLS, it is going to be a real discussion with the manager. If you can't find anything in Europe, you have to come back. Though I would prefer if he didn't come back."
Reyna's future in Europe has drawn a lot of attention as of late, with Borussia Dortmund ready to part ways with the player following his subpar stint at Signal Iduna Park. The player will hope to confirm a move away from the German club before the end of the transfer window, with the midfielder desperately needing game time to secure his place in Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT squad for the World Cup in 2026.
