The tension between Lamine Yamal and Dani Carvajal is growing. The two Spanish internationals have reportedly had constant disagreements since the Barcelona winger accused Real Madrid of cheating — and after the latest El Clásico, things have only gotten worse.

The first El Clásico of the season took place on Sunday, October 26. Real Madrid bounced back after losing every matchup against Barcelona last season, winning this one convincingly. But Yamal’s post-game comments didn’t sit well with the Madrid captain, Dani Carvajal.

After the final whistle, Carvajal confronted the 18-year-old on the field, sparking a brief brawl.

Players from both sides got involved, pushing and shoving, and even Vinícius Jr. — who had been subbed off 20 minutes earlier — came back from the locker room to exchange words with Yamal.

The situation didn’t end there. Following the defeat, Lamine Yamal unfollowed Carvajal on Instagram.

Rivalries between Barcelona and Real Madrid players have always been intense, but they usually stayed on the pitch. This time, the tension threatens to spill into the Spanish national team — where Carvajal still wears the captain’s armband when on the field.

Spain will be back together in November for World Cup qualifiers, and that could be the moment for the two to sort things out. Otherwise, the situation could grow into a bigger problem for Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

Could This Affect Spain’s World Cup Preparation?

It’s not an ideal scenario. Two key players not getting along during a World Cup cycle is far from the environment Luis de la Fuente wants in his locker room.

Carvajal is no longer Spain’s first-choice right back — that role now belongs to Pedro Porro — but his experience and leadership remain valuable. However, if the tension with Yamal continues, it could create divisions within the team, especially between players from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

We’ve seen similar situations before — Gerard Piqué and Sergio Ramos also clashed during their club days, yet they managed to put their rivalry aside when representing Spain. So far, Yamal and Carvajal haven’t shown that same chemistry.

Still, there’s time to fix things. Whether it happens in private talks or during the next international break, Spain’s harmony might depend on it.
