A total of 12 players will be missing as Chelsea face Sunderland at Stamford Bridge this Saturday. Six potential first-team players from each side will have to sit out this game as both look to climb further up the table, with the possibility that, should there be a winner, they could be second in the table tomorrow evening. Here is the latest injury and team news for both Chelsea and Sunderland.
Reinildo – Available after suspension
The left-back has now completed his three-match suspension following his sending off against Aston Villa and is available for selection
Omar Alderete – Out, Concussion
The defender suffered a concussion during the victory against Wolves last weekend and is currently under concussion protocols. Is expected back for the next game against Everton.
Romaine Mundle – Out, Hamstring injury
Regis Le Bris gave an update on the winger during his latest press conference, and the news was positive. He said: “He had his last appointment with the specialist about his injury and he was given the green light. The feedback from that surgery was really positive, so he should be stronger. So now it is just a question of confidence and he will need maybe two weeks to be 100%.”
Habib Diarra – Out, Groin injury
Has had surgery on a groin injury and, at present, is expected to be out until December.
Leo Hjelde – Out, Achilles injury
Had surgery on both achilles during the summer, but is expected to rejoin full training next month.
Dennis Cirkin – Out, Wrist injury
Currently training with the Under-21s as he continues his recovery from wrist and knee injuries. Expected to be back training with the first team next month.
Aji Alese – Out
Has not played since January due to injuries. However, he could be back by the end of November.
Levi Colwill – Out, ACL injury
Suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during pre-season and will miss most of the season. However, he is now recovering from surgery and has started working in the gym.
Cole Palmer – Out, Groin injury
Has suffered from a persistent groin injury and has not played since the defeat at Manchester United. Is not expected to be available for around 4-6 weeks.
Malo Gusto – Suspended
Sent off for two bookable offences in the victory at Nottingham Forest last week, the second late in the game, but by this time the Blues were three-nil up.
Liam Delap – Out, Hamstring injury
Enzo Maresca gave an update on when striker Liam Delap will be available again following his injury during the third game of the season. He said: Liam took part of the session yesterday with the team for the first time. He is not going to be available for tomorrow but probably for the next one.”
Benoit Badiashile – Out
Came off in the victory over Liverpool with a muscular injury and will not feature until December.
Dario Essugo – Out
A summer signing from Sporting Lisbon, but has yet to play following a thigh injury suffered on international duty. Has had surgery but could be out until January.
