Lautaro Martinez has broken his silence following the confirmation of Simone Inzaghi’s departure as head coach of Inter, and has also given a brief reaction to Inter’s 2024-25 season, which ended with a 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

Lautaro has recently arrived in his homeland for Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile on June 6 (BST, June 5 local time) and Colombia on June 11 (BST, June 10 local time).

He will then have a quick turnaround to rejoin Inter in time for the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14, with Inter’s first match falling against Monterrey on June 18.

Lautaro responds to Inzaghi’s Inter departure

Shortly after arriving back in Argentina, Lautaro was asked a series of quickfire questions by reporters on the ground, the first of which related to Inter’s 5-0 hammering in the Champions League final.

“The season was positive because we fought until the end in all competitions. Unfortunately we have not been able to claim any titles, but the balance remains positive overall,” Lautaro said, via fcinternews.it

Lautaro also spoke publicly about the departure of head coach Inzaghi for the first time:

“These are personal decisions,” The Nerazzurri captain said. “I had the chance to talk to him yesterday. It is a decision that he made, with the management.”

Lautaro and his teammates will also go up against Argentine giants River Plate during the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup: “It’s great because we know each other. It’s also great for River and for the competition,” he said.

And finally, Lautaro answered questions about two of the new talents in the Argentina national team squad, Franco Mastantuono and Kevin Lomónaco.

“They are talents who have come through our football (system). Very happy to have them with us, because they’re doing a great job in Argentine football.”
