Lazio are set to keep Matias Vecino by offering him a new contract, but Marcos Antonio is sold to Sao Paulo after a loan spell.

The Biancocelesti are revamping their squad after the return of coach Maurizio Sarri , having been under the guidance of first Igor Tudor and then Marco Baroni when he resigned in March 2024.

Vecino to stay on at Lazio

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, that includes locking down veteran midfielder Vecino to a new deal.

The Uruguay international will turn 34 in August and his contract was set to expire in June, prompting interest from Benfica and Real Betis.

However, it looks as if he will continue the experience at Lazio, which began when he left Inter as a free agent in 2022.

Vecino and Sarri did not always see eye to eye, but evidently they worked out a better rapport.

Another decision made this evening is that Brazilian midfielder Marcos Antonio will be sold to Sao Paulo after his one-year loan experience.

He turns 25 later this week and was an investment for Lazio worth €7.5m from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2022.

However, he barely made an impact, sent out on loan to PAOK Salonika and then Sao Paulo, where he made 32 competitive appearances, contributing two assists.
