Last Word on Football brings the latest team news and predicted lineups as West Ham host relegation rivals Leeds United in the quarter-final of the FA Cup, where both sides will have to balance Premier League priorities with the dream of cup glory. The Hammers will be hoping to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2006, where they eventually lost on penalties in the final. For Leeds, their most recent FA Cup semi-final was back in 1987, before any of the current United squad were born, so fans will be desperate for them not to waste such a favourable tie.
Date: Sunday 5th April 2026
Venue: The London Stadium
Kick-off: 16:30 GMT
Last meeting: Leeds 2-1 West Ham (24th October 2025, Premier League)
Referee: Craig Pawson
Current Odds: West Ham 3/4 , Leeds 1/1
Nuno Espirito Santo said he is ‘assessing’ the fitness of his squad following the international break, with some players returning from international duty ‘with issues.’
On Crysencio Summerville, who has been unable to feature in the club’s last two games due to a calf injury, he said: “All of us are trying to get him fit as soon as possible, assessing him day-by-day to see how he improves.
“If he feels good then we take decisions.”
When asked about balancing the cup with Premier League survival, the Portuguese said: “We play and prepare for one game at a time. We are preparing for the FA Cup as best as we can so we can go through.
“We cannot think about the Wolves game. First we play the game against Leeds, preparing well, competing well, and then we move forward.”
On what it would mean for the fans to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2006: “We know what it means for our fans, it has been great for us to play at home. We expect support, we know it is a big night.
“Let’s enjoy it and play.”
In his pre-match press conference, Daniel Farke said there was a ‘question mark’ over striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s availability for the game, after the forward did not train on Thursday due to a minor hamstring issue.
The German said the Premier League is Leeds’ ‘highest priority’, but he is a ‘big believer in the cup competition,’ and is likely to name a ‘strong starting lineup without doing anything stupid.’
He added: “If you get the feeling someone is a risk because of a physical problem, we won’t risk it.”
Regarding his side’s mentality, he said: “We have seven weeks to achieve our goals. The group is so committed and so together in order to achieve what we want to achieve.”
On the prospect of reaching a first semi-final since 1987, he said: “First of all [we hope for] a better outcome than the last time we were at Wembley, but we know that to take part in a semi-final would be another chapter of history for this club because we haven’t been there for such a long time.”
