Thomas Frank backed to get the best out of Tottenham Hotspur star Dominic Solanke

It is not easy for a player to replace a legendary striker at a new club, let alone the striker in question is Tottenham legend Harry Kane. The North London club’s top goal-scorer was unstoppable during his time at N17, before he decided to move to Bayern Munich in 2023. The Lilywhites thought of replacing the club legend with Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke last summer.

But it is fair to say that the England international is taking his time to settle properly at Hotspur Way following his switch from the Vitality Stadium. Solanke found life tough during the initial months of the season, and also admitted that he was not confident leading the line for such a big club. However, the 27-year-old found his goalscoring mojo just in time as Spurs went toe-to-toe with big clubs in the Europa League.

The ex-Bournemouth star managed to play a crucial part in helping Tottenham win the Europa League against all odds last month. The 27-tear-old scored three goals and provided two assists in the knockout stages of the competition, ensuring the Lilywhites reached the promised land after exceeding all expectations.

Alasdair Gold backs Tottenham star Dominic Solanke to ‘explode’ under Thomas Frank

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has endured a strong first campaign with the Lilywhites, considering the club suffered a lot in domestic competitions due to injuries to key players. The England international was playing as a lone striker under Ange Postecoglou, but the arrival of Thomas Frank might just help Solanke push to new levels next season at N17.

Even Alasdair Gold believes that the 27-year-old will endure a successful campaign under Thomas Frank due to a better tactical setup. Speaking on Last Word On Spurs podcast, Gold said,

“I think Solanke is going to push on even more. Solanke is a terrific striker, but let’s be honest, the service he was getting was rubbish last season. He only became more of a workhorse than a striker. Whereas I think Thomas Frank will say to him, ‘Look, I’ll get you someone else to play alongside you in most games, you’ll have support up there, let’s just get the ball up to you and you’ll score goals’.”

Alasdair Gold has suggested that Dominic Solanke will play a key part in the final third of the pitch under Thomas Frank. The reliable journalist pointed out that the England international was not getting the right services last season, and he was running around a lot more under Ange Postecoglou. However, Gold believes that the 27-year-old will have someone to play alongside him next season and the striker will get support from his partner up top.

It remains to be seen how Thomas Frank utilises Dominic Solanke in his setup next year. The Danish tactician likes his strikers to get involved in the build-up play by running in the channels and coming deep to receive the ball. Frank wants his number nine to lure the defenders in so that the wingers can get in behind and cause havoc. This is something that suits Solanke’s game-style as well.
