Thomas Franks refuses to clam shut the Ivan Toney to Tottenham Hotspur rumours

As we all know, Tottenham need to bring in more attacking reinforcements in January if they are to compete on all four fronts this season. The Lilywhites prioritised signing attacking players in the summer, with the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani all heading to N17 to play under Thomas Frank. But the North London club still need to fix some issues if they are to build on last season’s Europa League success.

The most pressing issue remains the No. 9 position. At present, Thomas Frank has limited options to lead the line. Richarlison has been tasked with spearheading the attack this season as he looks to prove his worth in North London. However, after a promising start to the campaign, the Brazilian’s form has dipped, and frustration among fans is beginning to grow.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke — Richarlison’s main competition for the central striker role — is yet to feature this season. The England international is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained at the end of last term. Given his fitness concerns and inconsistent scoring record, relying solely on Solanke would be a risky strategy for a club aiming to challenge at the top of the Premier League.

Tottenham not shutting their doors on Ivan Toney as transfer links intensify

Recent reports suggest Tottenham are keeping tabs on Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney as they look to bolster their attacking line for the second half of the season. The Lilywhites view him as an upgrade on Richarlison and are willing to fend off competition for his signature. The report also adds that Thomas Frank is a huge admirer of the England international and he has personally contacted the 29-year-old over a potential reunion.

Fuelling speculation further, Frank has not dismissed the idea of reuniting with his former striker. Speaking at the Spurs Fan Forum (via Football.London), the Dane said,

“Of course, Ivan Toney I coached for a few years, top player, top guy, very good striker so let’s see what happens in the future.”

Thomas Frank is keeping the doors open for a potential reunion with Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney as Spurs continue to get linked with the prolific striker. Toney was coached by Frank during their time at Brentford, and it is fair to say that the England international enjoyed his best spell of football during that time. He took the Premier League by storm, which saw him widely regarded as one of the league’s most feared attackers before his move to Saudi.

Signing the 29-year-old should be a no-brainer for the Lilywhites, provided he takes a wage-cut to join the club. He will surely bring a different dynamic to the attack, with his physical presence and ability to link-up play with the other players. Toney would also be an upgrade on Richarlison, and his arrival would help Spurs cross the final hurdle and make them title challengers.
